The Gannet Safari Overland experience takes you to Hawke's Bay Cape Kidnappers gannet colony - the world's largest, most accessible gannet nesting place. It's the only way of being taken right to within a few feet of these remarkable birds - there is no walking required!

Begin your tour from Napier with a drive along the scenic coast to Te Awanga.  You will travel in comfort, in air conditioned 4 x 4 coaches through Cape Kidnappers Station and its International Golf course. You will traverse riverbeds, broad rolling pastures and breathtaking inclines. During the 16 km drive, you will stop at a spectacular cliff top with panoramic views across Hawke's Bay. Having also passed through native forest and predator proof fencing you will arrive within a few metres of this massive colony.

The gannets ignore human beings, but are ferocious hunters of fish. Their plummeting dives and ritual dance of recognition are a must see. The birds arrive at the colony late August and their chicks hatch from late November to early December. They then migrate again in March/April.
